What is Crossing The Threshold?
This is a comic about a girl named Maritza who inherits an ancient castle and ends up moving into it since well, she doesn’t have a better place to go. When she arrives she finds that not everything is as it seems in the town of Tortchwood. From the residents of the town, the dark mysteries of the forest surrounding it, and even the castle itself, there’s a lot to uncover in the shadows…
Currently the webcomic is in a heavy hiatus since I haven't worked on it in ages... But I hope to work on it again soon! I really want to at least introduce the rest of the main cast lmao.
It's still at chapter 1, "Castle Cryptid", and about 27 pages in so far.
In the prologue its revealed that magic exists in this world, even though our main protagonist Maritza Rivera didn't seem to inherit either of the elements from her parents. Her Grandmother promised her that she would find her power one day and that she wishes for her to 'use it for good'.
Maritza Rivera is moving to Tortchwood, because her Grandmother left her a crumbling castle in her will, and before getting to the castle she visits her friend Vicki at her parents' restaurant, Forkenstein's Revenge. Vicki introduces her to her finished project: Mantra, an agender 'frankensteined' being made of various human parts + lots of magic. Their first impression is rather shocking when they both find Mantra on the floor with a knife sticking out of their head. Luckily they're fine, just a bit annoyed about being alive. While Vicki patches up Mantra and talks about how they were made, Mantra offhandedly mentions the "monster in the castle".
Later back downstairs in the diner, Maritza tells Vicki's mom why she's here and upon mentioning the castle up on the hill, a strange man called Sid at the end of the bar pipes up about rumors of the monster that lives within, warning Maritza about how dangerous it is. Neither of his audience believes him.
